Penobscot Governor Letter
AUGUSTA, ME - OCTOBER 21: Maine State Archivist Kate McBrien examines Monday November 21, 2022 the July 1839 letter to Maine Governor John Fairfield from the leaders of the Penobscot Nation pleading for relief from the State of Maine. The Archivist obtained the letter signed by Penobscot Governor John Attean and Lt. Governor John Neptune before it went up for auction.
